The FIA says V8s return in 2030–31, turbocharged, with minimal hybrid. Nobody has built one yet — so here is every engine era from real audio, ending with a 2031 candidate assembled only from real recordings: the harmonics of a 2008 V8 under the measured exhaust signature of Honda's 2026 turbo. Headphones strongly recommended: phone speakers cut off exactly where these engines live.
All clips were cut from public videos of the real engines, high-passed at 60 Hz and level-normalised. Nothing else was touched on the historic entries. Engine speeds quoted were verified where possible by spectral analysis of the audio itself — the 2003 BMW V10 measures at 19,300 rpm from its harmonic spacing, matching its documented limit.
The 2031 morph takes the 2008 V8 recording, slows it 8.3 % (16,500 vs 18,000 rpm), and transplants 65 % of the spectral envelope measured on Honda's 2026 bench recording — the only clean recording of a current-generation turbo F1 engine — onto the V8's harmonic skeleton via cepstral cross-synthesis. Result verified to sit between its two source engines across the whole band.
What could not be done: extracting the turbine's transfer function by comparing turbo and non-turbo recordings directly. Five independent attempts (broadband difference, harmonic-peak difference, same-camera comparison, and two others) all failed the physics check — crowd, distance, microphone AGC and codec differences are each larger than the effect being measured. The morph sidesteps this by using a measured turbo envelope instead of a measured difference.
